FUTURE UPDATE BUILD
Tactical Axe is and will be even more of a monster for zealot after patch. It's innate crit chance from crit bonus alongside blazing piety and its synergy with scourge make it one of the best high crit options on zealot, which naturally scales really well with a high finesse weapon and high finesse class. This build follows pretty standard BP set ups with 1 particular node that imagine won't be taken in a lot of BP crit builds, that being holy tools.
This build is complete at 28/30 talents spent. These 28 points are spent entirely on picking up or allowing you to pick up every BiS node. You have 2 talents to spend where you would like to spend them. I spent them on:
-Holy Revenant
-Purge the Unclean
Technically if you're playing great, holy rev should never be used as your not procing until death. And even more technically, holy rev only furthermore forgives mistakes you should learning from.. but a whole lot of bullshit happens in this game and it's nice to have. Purge the unclean IS a good node, it just looks better on paper then it really is. Especially on a build using a high light attack damaging axe, there really isn't a lot of use for additional damage to infested, as many of the infested enemies already have their 1 shot breakpoints met. Though damage vs infested isn't useless on tac axe like it is on the combat axe. It will help a little with body shots, otherwise your really only taking the node for half of its perk, its unyielding damage.
Nevertheless I think these 2 talent points could be spent well on these talents as well:
-Enemies Within, Enemies Without
-Punish Impiety
-Out of pocket
Enemies within enemies without with is a super solid toughness regen node, just not sure if it'll be necessary especially with the buffs zealot is getting- blood redemption being added as a class passive. Regardless, I don't think you can go wrong including it. Punish impiety is a super solid node that I would probably take over holy rev or purge the unclean but tac axe is a very fast attacking weapon, I'm already taking faithful frenzy, and when these all stack with fury of the faithful attack speed boost I start worrying about the health of my hand and I don't want carpel tunnel. Out of pocket is a QoL talent that isn't necessary and is weapon dependent, I think I will like it a lot of bolter. 10% on only 1 melee kill seems pretty strong too.. that's a full loaded mag after just 10 kills
HOLY TOOLS
When I first saw this perk, I thought it looked awesome and immediately thought about how it work work so well with the thunder hammer, heavy eviscerator, relic blade, etc. I thought it would only be good for power weapons like these but I realized it could be massive on a weapon like tac axe. This is because of how tactical axe special works, its 2 different attacks that can combo and it can combo with both lights and heavies. I think it could be nice to be able to spam at ragers with an additional 20% damage when you're getting overwhelmed but the real reason I'm taking it is because that it can combo in with heavies. Heavy 2 is better then heavy 1 for single target damage, meaning this is the attack you want to use on enemies like crushers the most. Using special to combo skip H1 and go into a 20% boosted H2 could be really good. The combo would like like this:
L1 --> H2 --> special --> special --> H2 --> special --> special --> H2 etc..
You need 2 specials to get back to heavy 2, but both the 2nd special and H2 would be hitting for 20% additional damage with holy tools. I could be wrong and this isn't better for dps, I'll have to do some testing when the comes out but I think there is serious potential here. And if you want to boost your H1 for clearing out hordes, that's even easier, H1 only requires 1 special to get back to it. The combo would look like this:
H1 --> special --> H2 --> special --> H2 etc..
I think part of the potential here is in the utility of the stagger of the special attack, staggering the high hp enemy in front of you while comboing to your next H2 could be really nice. But as I am thinking about it right now as i type this I'm realizing stagger an enemy means they don't attack you which is good, but for like any class but zealot, that means no duelist. So I don't know, this could be really good or it could be mid, testing will be needed but figured throw holy tools in the build for the concept.
Why didn't I use any of the new until death keystone nodes?
Because they are BAD. Ideally you never want to proc the unkillable buff, especially with how zealous pilgrim locks you out of until death, I do not not want to sit at 1 hp until the next opportunity to heal.. not only that, but I feel probably the safest right after I use my fury of the faithful. So a major part of the zealous pilgrim node you actively never want to happen. And beyond that, 10% melee damage and attack speed for only 4 seconds procing on an ability use? It's not awful.. but it's not good.
But what about burn damage and increased damage to burning targets?
So I'd already be spending 1 talent point to give me a 4 second buff that does has low uptime while also locking me out of the talent that makes until death borderline not useless (holy rev), I'd be spending another talent point that lets me make targets burn during those 4 seconds? And then another whole talent point to make me do 15% more damage to those targets I hit during those 4 seconds that are not already dead? Yeah sorry, that's just not worth it whatsoever. Not even acknowledging that you can take fire and fury without taking zealous pilgrim because it is such a bad idea it doesn't deserve acknowledgement.
What about risen?
That would be a fair question to ask, I don't know how that will work with the golden toughness rework. I don't think it'll be that good? I don't think it will be bad either but not really worth it unless I'm already taking all these other nodes, which I think the only reason I would ever touch any of these nodes would be very an insane marty build where you're constantly 1 hp. I can see that be fun as hell but this isn't a marty build.
