Description
Playing with the Slab Shield does not necessarily mean that you need to take every single damage reducing talent in the game and make yourself into a turtle with no offensive capabilities. Once you are ready to take the training wheels off (Feel No Pain ) you can swap over to this build and start smashing heretic skulls while also buffing your team damage tremendously!
First, lets talk damage buffs. You are bringing in a large amount of damage for the team simply by existing. Talents like Soften Them Up , Hard Knocks , Brutish Strength, the Bonebreaker's Aura, and the Skullcrusher blessing mean that just by playing the game you are going to be boosting team damage tremendously. Add in Loyal Protector and Attention Seeker and you're really gonna be taking care of the lil 'uns nicely!
What this build does different is that it drops a lot of the defensive talents that a lot of Slab Ogryns feel like they need to take. It doesnt really make sense to take them when you think about it for a minute though. Most ogryn players already play without Feel No Pain when they use other weapons, and the Slab Shield is already a much more defensive weapon than any other that the Ogryn has. Why double down on the defenses when you don't need it any more than you would if you were playing pickaxe or hammer. Instead we switch over to Heavy Hitter to REALLY boost our damage. By swapping over and dropping a lot of the defensive talents for things like Beat Them Back , No Hurting Friends! , and Dominate while taking Brutal Momentum on our shield we can really take our damage to respectable levels without sacrificing a lot of survivability.
Now, while this isnt the most exciting weapon play style you are going to be to be using push A LOT. Pushing an enemy will apply Skullcrusher , Hard Knocks , and brittleness through the Brutish Strength talent which is all going to increase you and your team's damage by a LOT. Follow it up with a Heavy 1 and not only are you going to dealing a large amount of damage but also applying Soften Them Up . Keep in mind that pushing is also going to be causing enemies to become taunted on your through Attention Seeker and that the push is in 360 degrees around you so you can apply debuffs to a LOT of enemies at once.
Overall, this is a much more offensive Slab Shield build than youre probably used to but not only are you going to be contributing through taunts and debuffs but also doing respectable damage while doing it.
Attack Patters:
Push -> H1 (use this 95% of the time for mixed hordes and aim the H1 at the head of the scariest thing in the horde)
Push -> PA -> H1 ( the PA is a vertical hit but has pretty bad ADMs unless used on unarmored heads, flak, or infested so save it for those)
H1 -> H2 (can use those for big hordes of pox walkers. H2 has infinite cleave and has blocking properties in the front)
