Description
Welcome to my very first guide.
This is arguably my favourite Veteran build I pretty much run like 70% of the time since the skill tree system rework from 2 years ago. Now that the Veteran got a reworked skill tree in Bound by Duty I must say that my old melee Plasma Gun Veteran haven't changed much except the melee weapon.
So yeah the idea of this build is a Vanguard style Veteran build. Your role is to be a frontliner/backline diver (depends if your team already has a frontliner in the form of Zealot/Arbitrator/Ogryn). You see horde, you melee horde. You see Crusher / Bulwark / Reaper you shoot. Same with large groups of Dreg Rager and Scab Rager as well as Scab Mauler (probably unless you have faith in your melee skills and in the Emperor.) Dreg Gunner Scab Gunner Scab Plasma Gunner you also shoot if they're on the other side of the hive city. Any kind of specialist you are expected to shoot them in the face with extreme prejudice. And if you hear a Scab Trapper spawning just cry under your bed just as always.
Okay jokes aside I try to break it down a bit more for you all. Mind it is my very first time making a public build for other users. So don't expect it as the most unique or best build to run. It's a build I have fun with and wanted to share it.
The key point of that build is the ability Infiltrate combined with a melee weapon able to clear hordes and a range weapon to snipe specialists and cook elites and Ogryns. Let's start with melee weapons which we have a few to choose from. Depending of your preference we have the following choices: Aridin Mk I Power Falchion Lawbringer Mk IIb Power Falchion Scandar Mk III Power Sword Achlys Mk VI Power Sword Cadia Mk IV Assault Chainsword Cadia Mk XIIIg Assault Chainsword and any of the Catachan Devils or Tutolsky Heavy Swords. It's just really preference tbh which you're more comfortable with in melee.
For range it's more straightforward because you either pick up the M35 Magnacore Mk II Plasma Gun or the Locke Mk IIb Spearhead Boltgun. You can probably still make use of the Locke Mk III Spearhead Boltgun but I haven't tried it yet. Optionally Godwyn-Branx Mk IV Bolt Pistol or Godwyn-Branx Mk VI Bolt Pistol works as well (Lethal Proximity) but in that case I would probably swap out One Motion with either Longshot or Covering Fire, probably even Always Prepared for On Your Toes because the reload doesn't take ages (but nothing stops you of taking Tactical Reload if you really need reload). Zarona Mk IIa Quickdraw Stub Revolver will work too as well.
For grenades I usually use Krak Grenade but Shredder Frag Grenade is probably a better choice for crowd-control and because you'll use your range weapon to get rid of armoured heretics. Again, preference.
Survivalist is just too good to pass on and also makes sure you won't run out of ammo at least too fast during a mission. For the ability I decided for Infiltrate to be a cheeky rat either run past enemies for a revive, dive into the backline or to jumpscare enemies by cosplaying the Undertaker. I additionally go with Hunter's Resolve to have additional tankiness to not get shredded if suddenly Wolfer himself sends half of his gunners after you came out of invis. I'm personally not a fan of Low Profile because you already gave your aggro to your teammates after popping your ability so you at least can tank a bit like a man, especially because Infiltrate replenish all your toughness. But of course if you don't like Infiltrate you can of course swap to Voice of Command with Duty and Honour with no problem, but remember you'll be locked to the frontline completly.
For minor adjustment you can swap out Field Improvisation with Serrated Blade and the one toughness node with things like Longshot, Covering Fire, Grenadier, On Your Toes or any minor node, it is really a flex point depending on your preference.
Last thing to mention are the curious. Surprise, you have option of choice. Either 2xToughness and 1xHealth/Stamina or 3xToughness. As well as the sub stat you're free to take additional toughness or stamina regen or block/sprint efficiency or revive speed. The reason I don't take 3x Gunner Resistance is because of diminishing returns (if I remember correctly you'll lose 10%DR with 3x compared to 2% or 3% with 2x) so you can also run 2x Gunner DR and 1x Sniper DR. But again the option of choice is yours.
I hope my Vet build gets some love, like I said it's my first time so I tried to put some thoughts in them and hopefully explained it somewhat well. My goal is just to share some builds I personally run while also giving you fellow servants of the God Emperor some freedom to modify my build to your preferences while trying to keep the soul of my Steel Legion Vet build. And yes this build got the Steel Legion outfit designated and it won't change.
For the Emperor, For Tertium... we'll see us in the hive.
