Description
The goal is to use Chordclaw Strike every ~10 seconds to maintain Moebian Conductor and Redline Capacitors. Pressing the ability button without holding will execute the cleaving Axial Slash. Holding the button briefly before releasing will execute the normal Chordclaw Strike, which is better for single target damage. If you mostly use Chordclaw while at 5 charges, you can have high uptime on +25% strength from Advanced Power Management and 20% TDR from Residual Current Buffer. The build has 63% overall toughness damage reduction while you have 4 ability charges and all buffs active.
Chordclaw is also useful for killing crushers, which are normally the bane of the Devil's Claw. This build gets 22.5% permanent rending from Capacitory Limit Override and Foe-Render Creed, and an additional +15% from Branx Mk XI Phosphor Blast Pistol debuff, so the Devil's Claw is decent at handling crushers too. The combo of Chordclaw strikes and Devil's Claw parries provides very respectable boss/monstrosity DPS.
Branx Mk XI Phosphor Blast Pistol is a good sidearm for killing specialists and also applying brittleness to large targets. Branx Mk CV Galvanic Rifle is a strong alternative, along with the usual suspects like M35 Magnacore Mk II Plasma Gun, Zarona Mk IIa Quickdraw Stub Revolver, and Accatran MG Mk II Heavy Laspistol.
Evasive Servo Recovery helps maintain stamina for parrying. You could take Capacitor Reclamation Loop or Surge-Extension instead if you only use parry occasionally.
Hydraulic Impact is pretty good value in this build because both Chordclaw strikes and Devil's Claw parries count as heavy melee attacks.
Slice and Dice can be taken instead of Satiated Steel if you value burst damage over more frequent ability use.
The current build gets up to +95% cleave, or +168% including strength bonuses. If you find you need toughness sustain more than cleave, you can path through Servo-Core Recharge Engine instead of Adaptive Combat Calibration.
You can take Rampage in place of Skullcrusher on the sword if you want. Rampage is easier to trigger, but less impactful. Since this build electrocutes (which staggers) on crit with Electro-Strike Conduit and has up to 37.5% strength (which multiplies damage, stagger, and cleave) from Advanced Power Management and Sequenced Charge, I think Skullcrusher is the stronger option overall.
Dump stat on the Devil's Claw sword is either Mobility or Cleave Targets. You gain 1.0 cleave mass on heavy attacks and 0.6 on light attacks going from 60% to 80% Cleave Targets. You gain 0.18 sprint speed and 0.02 dodge distance going from 60% to 80% Mobility. In this case, I've chosen to dump Mobility because the pistol with 60% Mobility still has faster sprint speed than an 80% Mobility sword, so just swap to your pistol for running around the map.
System Shock is a potential source of up to 40% brittleness, but the Devil's Claw only has 33.5% crit chance so it would take quite a few hits on average to max the brittleness. Since the build already has Chordclaw for killing crushers and brittleness is less of a concern on other targets, I opted not to take System Shock.
I didn't invest in a blitz because the default servo-skull can still be used to complete hacking minigames and can apply a +15% damage taken debuff to a double-tagged target by activating your blitz (with a 16 second cooldown). That's good enough for my needs and allows other players to take the grenade pickups. If you want Medicae Servo-Skull (or another blitz), I recommend swapping out Shockline Breach Protocol, Evasive Servo Recovery, and/or Hydraulic Impact for it.
I like the Mk VII Devil's Claw best, but you can use a different variant if you prefer. I've included suggested attack combos below for each variant of the weapon. There's quite a bit of room for improvisation with the attack combos, especially when mixing in parries and push attacks.
Catachan Mk VII "Devil's Claw" Sword
Horde clear: heavy > light > repeat OR heavy > parry/block cancel > repeat
Single target: light > heavy, then (light x2 > heavy > repeat) OR push attack > light x2 > heavy > repeat
OR spam light attacks
Monstrosity/boss aggro: parry when possible, then spam light attacks between enemy attacks
Catachan Mk IV "Devil's Claw" Sword
Horde clear: light > heavy > repeat OR spam light attacks
Single target: heavy > light > repeat OR heavy > parry/block cancel > repeat
Monstrosity/boss aggro: parry when possible, then use the single-target combo between enemy attacks
Catachan Mk I "Devil's Claw" Sword
Horde clear: spam heavy attacks
Single target: spam light attacks
Monstrosity/boss aggro: parry when possible, then spam light attacks between enemy attacks
