Description
Build Alternatives :
This Build is extremely specific in what it's doing and what it's supposed to do. As such the number of alternatives is significantly lower than the builds i created so far. Nonetheless, i will list below the few options you can consider :
- If you want more ammo / ammo economy or simply the freedom of shooting more, you can swap the Achlys Mk II Heavy Stubber for the Krourk Mk IIa Heavy Stubber. If you do, replace Surgical par Headhunter and Hail of Fire for Light 'em Up. This will remove your ability entirely to damage carapace armored enemies in exchange for a more precise version of the Gorgonum Mk IV Twin-Linked Heavy Stubber. ( in my opinion, a lot weaker and also asks the question of why not using the Gorgonum Mk IV Twin-Linked Heavy Stubber in the first place )
- You can replace two of the revive speed curios for 1 - 20% gunner resistance and 1 - 4% ability regeneration. You will need your time alive basically no matter what ( Ogryn having an extremely hard time surviving both pure Scab Gunner spam and dangerous Scab Trapper and Pox Hound spawns on it's own. ) but your survivability while around your team and your effectiveness ( having a better uptime of Point-Blank Barrage ) will be significantly boosted.
- Considering the space needed to effectively make this build work, both the Frag Bomb and the Bombs Away! are valuable. ( never take Big Friendly Rock in this specific build ). The choice being ether having a much better clear but a lot rarer with Frag Bomb or having more often the options to create space when needed with Bombs Away!. In any case, if you play with a hive scum that isn't using Blackout, always take Bombs Away! as he become the priority for grenades.
- Can't Hit Me...Again and Strongman are basically interchangeable, one being more polyvalent while the other allowing you to counter fire easier. Ether way, they are both almost always up.
- Reloaded and Ready is active whenever you use Point-Blank Barrage making the strength of each shot that much stronger, but can be a option point when needed. Unstoppable Momentum is great paired with Get Stuck In maximizing your mouvement ability while firing. Bigger Box of Hurt will allow more space to be created and more effectiveness on each Bombs Away! usage. Spray and Slay is an interisting choice, as you will always use your entire magazine on Point-Blank Barrage making you more effective at melee fighting and boosting the special attack of your Achlys Mk I Power Maul. Good Shootin' to maximize your crit potential. Or simply taking Can't Hit Me...Again to boost your survivability that much more. All of those are great in there own way and mostly depends of your preference.
- Bulletstorm can be changed for Good Shootin' if you simply desire to make sure you crit more often rather than boosting your range damage for every lucky bullet.
Strength :
- The 50% ammo refund from Point-Blank Barrage basically allow you to shoot 30 bullet for each power use. Each bullet ether one shotting non carapace armored enemies on weakspot or 4 shotting Crusher on crit weakspot ( data taken in havoc 40 ). All in all, amazing ammo economy and extremely strong range support for your team, killing even the tougher kind of enemies ( outside of Rotten Armour )
- The raw precision of the Achlys Mk II Heavy Stubber boosted to it's limit will give to the Ogryn a very unexpected yet actually very strong precise range support role.
- The Achlys Mk I Power Maul Special attack will single handedly deal with hordes of smaller enemies or kill off high value targets on a 10s cooldown, making you more than able to defend yourself in melee.
- Bruiserand Maximum Firepowerwill restore your Point-Blank Barrage very consistently. Up to multiple instant of Point-Blank Barrage following each other on a 35s cooldown ( Point-Blank Barrage being on a base 80s )
- Steady Grip, Pumped Up, Strongman, No Hurting Friends!, Bullet Bravado and Mobile Emplacement allow you to sustain counter fire without issue, effectively eliminating one of the Ogryn biggest issue in long range gunner spam.
Weakness :
- You occupy the usual slot of an Ogryn, without providing the typical melee Ogryn that create space for your team and stagger enemies repetivly. Meanwhile you do not give the usual Point-Blank Barrage heavy fire support that a Gorgonum Mk IV Twin-Linked Heavy Stubber would give, making you enter a very specifc spot that will ask you and your team to adapt.
- Your Monstrosity damage is great on Point-Blank Barrage weakspot hits, but outside of it, you have lacking ways to deal with Monstrosities your best option being weakspot hits with Achlys Mk II Heavy Stubber. On top of that you have no effective ways to deal with Scab Captain nor twins.
- Even so you do not create space as the typical Ogryn would, you are in need of space as every Point-Blank Barrage makes you become a single target elites and specialist eliminating Machine, but basically almost completely defenseless against a horde apart from switching to your melee option, which will cut down completely your utility. You are a Veteran without it's mobility, agility or Voice of Command to create the space you need.
- Your timing can become ankward quickly. You want to use your Achlys Mk II Heavy Stubber paired with Point-Blank Barrage to keep your ammo economy high, and you want to use your Achlys Mk I Power Maul special attack and normal melee do defend yourself while waiting for Point-Blank Barrage to be up. The issue is that sometimes you'll be interupted mid Point-Blank Barrage and will have to swap to your Achlys Mk I Power Maul special, BUT, after creating space with your melee weapon, you'll want to go back to Point-Blank Barrage which will basically ether be over or almost over, without getting its cooldown lowered significantly due to not killing a lot of elites and specialist AND your Achlys Mk I Power Maul special will be on cooldown for still seconds. This can be handled somewhat with great positioning and spacial awarness, or with a team that support your build, but hard nonethless.
Conclusion :
Now let's speak about something. The Ogryn have a raw set of talents that make him the typical space creating monster in high havoc, which also means that whenever you'll be picked as an Ogryn, you will be picked for your capacity of creating that said space. Even Point-Blank Barrage is seen ether as a Lorenz Mk VI Rumbler spammer or a Gorgonum Mk IV Twin-Linked Heavy Stubber spammer, which in both case also create space and have high damage output.
None of those are creative and are basically seen all the time, while my purpose in creating those builds is not only to creat havoc 40 level builds that'll work beautifully while avoiding the meta, but also making it original and creative as much as possible.
This builds succeed in being Original, it succeed in being creative, in being strong and in not being meta.
It makes you play a role that is entirely different from the typical Ogryn, more akin to an Executioner's Stance Veteran with more survivability, picking single target from distance all the time.
Yet, it'll suffer from it's own success. it's so good at being something different from the typical Ogryn, that you cannot do the job of what an Ogryn is typical picked for. My advice ? ether have fun with it ether way as winning isn't as important for you as simply going for something different, or pick a team that'll sustain this build with you.
What's a good team to make it work ? you may ask. A Voice of Command + Survivalist Veteran ( Generally a grenade Veteran is the best ), a staff Psyker ( Voidblast or Inferno ) with Seer's Presence ( a Stimm Supply melee hive scum with cooldown stimm + Booby Trap will also work ), and an active melee space creater, often a Chorus of Spiritual Fortitude spam + Artemia Mk III Purgation Flamer zealot or a Orox Mk II & Mk III Battle Maul & Slab Shield + Loyal Protector Ogryn.
The idea being that you become the primary range target picker, while having high horde damage, space creation and boss clear from your teammates. This would be the ideal team for this build.
As you saw and as you read, this build isn't meta even a single bit, but it was a great feeling to create something fondamentally different and play it afterward. A type of fun i didn't think would be available for this class now exist, and my fun with it is undeniable. Will you be able to hop on a team that make the best use of this build, or simply are you having fun with it and use it to your heart content, it's in any case a very strong build that'll work in the highest level of play ( and will work obviously for anything below ) and a very fun one to boot !
